Mission

The Writer’s Workshop aims to support writers and advance knowledge about writing.

The Writer’s Workshop aims to support writers and advance knowledge about writing. Writer’s Workshop consultants promise to respect, support, and encourage writers to write authentically, grow academically, and gain new perspectives on writing. As peers, we seek to help writers express knowledge through collaboration and conversation. We help students develop writing processes through practices such as brainstorming, outlining, drafting, reading through work together, and discussing revisions. While our consultants are trained in revision strategies, our primary goal is to help students produce authentic writing rather than merely “correct” writing. The Writer’s Workshop strives to achieve its mission through events, outreach, research, and fostering collaboration.

The Writer’s Workshop is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning space by providing multilingual and multimodal resources for students of all backgrounds, majors, and identities. The Writer’s Workshop is dedicated to serving all students; we especially seek to support students whose language practices have often been marginalized by the norms of academic English, including multilingual students, students with disabilities, and students of color. The Workshop constantly evolves to better reflect these interests, conducting research and reflecting on how resources could be improved. As a community, we aim to provide meaningful and thoughtful feedback, in an effort to help writers reach their goals. We recognize as a Jesuit liberal arts college that students strive for intellectual growth and social justice; we support our peers by challenging and empowering them to develop ideas that produce positive changes in the world.
