About the Program
In October 2015, the College announced a new program that provides faculty and staff an opportunity to learn more about and volunteer at local non-profit through a day of service. Coordinated by the office of government and community relations (GCR) and supported by Human Resources and Wellness, the program provides faculty and staff the opportunity to volunteer as a group at local non-profits.
Upcoming Event
Please join us for the next outing of the HC Employee Volunteer Program on Friday, October 14, at Community Harvest Project's farm and orchard in Harvard, MA. Community Harvest Project is a non-profit farm that engages and educates volunteers to grow fresh fruits and vegetables for hunger relief. HC volunteers are needed to help pick apples at the Prospect Hill Community Orchard, which is owned and operated by Community Harvest Project and with the help of the Town of Harvard, Harvard Conservation Trust, Sudbury Valley Trustees, and the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources.
It is a working farm! All activities take place outside. Wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, closed-toed shoes, a hat, and seasonally appropriate items. Wear sunscreen and carry a refillable water bottle. Please read the Grafton CHP Grafton Farm FAQ and the CHP ORCHARD FAQ prior to our visit with them.
When: Friday, October 14th, March 19
9am ton 1pm
Where: Prospect Hill Community Orchard
115 Prospect Hill Rd
Harvard, MA 01451
How: Volunteers need to register in advance via myHC's Community Engagement event listing.
Because this is a Holy Cross Wellness sponsored event, employees may attend without having to use leave time. However, before registering for the event, volunteers must secure approval of the time away from their supervisors to coordinate time away from their department. The supervisor must approve the time away in advance and has the discretion to not approve the request.
Things to consider:
- Please wear clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. Footwear should be work appropriate, open-toed shoes are discouraged.
- Please bring a refillable water bottle - staying hydrated while working is key.
- Carpooling is an option. We will keep you posted about transportation.
