My name is Nakyah Lucas and I am a junior here at the college. My hometown is Irvington, New Jersey. I am currently the one of the Co-Chairs of the BSU. Joining the BSU was like joining a family. It was nice to be surrounded by people who shared similar experiences as me. I wanted to be able to add input on how to bring change to the campus community by not only tendering to the needs of students of color, but also all students. Also, I wanted to act a mentor/ activist for those who may not be able to speak for themselves, especially considering all of the difficulties that one may go through while in college. Attending a PWI is difficult in itself, for many reasons, however, creating that safe space for students of color is my main priority. Being on the executive board gives me the opportunity not only to make a difference, but make a difference with a great group of people!
Brianna Maynard '19

My name is Brianna Maynard and I am a Biology/Pre-Med rising senior here at the college. I was born in Salem, MA (spooky right?) but have lived in Lynn, MA my whole life. This year, I have the honor of being the co-chair of this lovely organization! I joined the BSU my freshman year because social justice causes involving minorities have always been an important part of my upbringing. The BSU’s mission to provide students of color with spaces where they can freely express themselves and share their culture with non-students of color was paramount to me. On top of this, I was on the track team and a few of my teammates were a part of BSU--including our captain who happened to be co-chair at the time! I felt like I would enjoy a great sense of community and four years later, I was not wrong.

My name is Marcellis Perkins i am a senior from Hampton Roads, VA. This year I will be the senior adviser for the 2018-2019 school year. The reason I wanted to be a part of an organization like BSU is because I wanted to celebrate blackness and all of its diversity and also educate my peers as I learn more myself about Blackness. I feel that within this college space it is vital that Black students claim spaces for solidarity and to hone in on the idea of being and or creating community.

My name is Feleicia. I’m a junior, and I’m from Bridgeport, CT. I am currently the secretary of the BSU. I joined the BSU because I love contributing ideas to help educate the community on our culture. I also love being involved in the discussions and events that we put on.

My name is Simeon Lloyd-Wingard, I am currently a sophomore. My hometown is Dorchester, MA, which is actually part of the Greater Boston Area. I am the treasurer. I joined BSU because I wanted to participate in at least one E-Board on campus and I thought of joining the BSU E-Board would be great opportunity to get to know some of my fellow black upperclassmen while embracing my racial pride at the same time.

My name is Eeliyah Beckham, and I am a senior at the College. I am from Wilmington, DE, and I am the MSO Liaison of the BSU this year. When I came to Holy Cross, I did not know anyone and by joining the BSU I was able to connect with people that I identify with, and form amazing friendships. I wanted to be a part of an organization that was a safe space for students of color, and actually had a positive impact on the community.

My name is Florence Ubah. I am originally from Nigeria, but I currently live in Boston. I am a senior, majoring in Psychology and Pre-med. I am a co-publicist. I joined Black Student Union to learn more about black culture and help to create awareness about black culture in Holy Cross. Also, I want to help the students of color feel like they are part of the community in Holy Cross.

My name is Lensa Jean, I am a junior from Boston and the co-publicist of BSU. I joined BSU to help create an environment where students of color can find their comfort zone. A place to interact with people who understand what it is like to be a minority at Holy Cross. It is refreshing to be in an atmosphere of students who would like to seek change. Where everyone is planning events and exchanging their visions. The greatest fulfillment is knowing the future outcome. Our vision is clear and will provide numerous opportunities for minorities as well as fellow students. As the co-publicist of BSU, I plan to help promote our contribution to the school and help expand our audience. I would like students from all background to support BSU’s events. My goal is to help leave a pathway for the next generation of students of color and strengthen relationships amongst my fellow peers.

My name is Stephanie McCrary. I am a junior at the College of the Holy Cross. My hometown is Decatur, GA. My role in the BSU is Event Coordinator. I joined this organization because I want to make an impact at HC. Being an African American at a PWI, I feel that this is important to promote the voice of minorities, whether it is through conversation or events, and I believe that the BSU is the perfect organization to make this to happen. The BSU creates an environment that is centered around embracing and educating people about how diverse the black experience can be, and I want to contribute to the dialogue with my own experiences as one of the few black, female students from the South.

Community Outreach
My name is Nicolas Jones, and I am a fourth year student. I am from the San Francisco Bay Area and my role on the BSU is Community Outreach Coordinator. I joined the BSU because, I was encourage to join as many clubs as I could manage before assimilating into the everyday college life. I have proudly stuck with the Black Student Union because of its mission to instruct and invigorate Black culture on the Holy Cross campus and the greater Worcester, Massachusetts area. I wholeheartedly believe in the various activities and pursuits that the Black Student Union at Holy Cross has sponsored and pursued, respectively.
