Re-Readings and Re-Viewings of Sacred/Archetypal Narratives in Literature and the Arts

This event is organized by the international French/ English journal  INTERFACES (CELJ 2010 Parnassus Award), the College of the Holy Cross, the Université Paris Diderot, and the Université de Bourgogne.  INTERFACES, a publication of accepted papers submitted for consideration will be available at the conference.

Michael Phillips, scholar, printmaker, Fellow at the Center for Eighteenth Century Studies, University of York, an internationally recognized expert on poet and revolutionary painter and print maker William Blake, will speak during the Word & Image conference. He has published widely on Blake, including, William Blake: The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (2011). He was guest curator of the major exhibitions of Blake at Tate Britain 2000, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art 2001, and at the Petit Palais 2009. He is currently preparing an exhibition - 'William Blake Apprentice & Master' - for the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford.

Phillips will show a small exhibition of his Blake prints at the Cantor Art Gallery and offer a printmaking workshop for participants during the conference.
