As the coordinator of student-athlete psychological services, my goal is to help create an environment where student-athletes can be at their best while balancing the joys, stress, responsibilities, and unique challenges involved with being a student-athlete. My philosophy stems from believing everything is a performance issue and the work is helping student-athletes thrive athletically, academically, socially, and personally by supporting all aspects of their identity, integrating mental health and performance. In collaboration with sports medicine, the hope is to start treating and responding to psychological distress the same way we respond to physical injury.
My coordinator role means that I am available to provide professional and clinical expertise on mental health and performance concerns that impact student-athletes. I welcome the opportunity to engage in conversations about any and all aspects related to student-athlete mental health and performance. My coordinator role does not mean that I am the only therapist who can or does work with student-athletes, although individuals may choose to work with me because of my specialization, passion, and experience as a sport psychology practitioner. All of the therapists at CAPS are trained in and provide affirmative therapy to all student-athletes.
