The Role of the Counseling Center

The Counseling Center and the Career Planning Center play vital roles in the life of the College by offering a wide range of counseling and career services to members of the College community. Our collective and primary goal is to support students in the transition to adulthood.

To facilitate this goal we work cooperatively with faculty, administrators, parents, alumni, and employers toward promoting the intellectual and personal growth of students during their years at the College. Counseling Services are directed toward encouraging the psychological growth and development ordinarily experienced in late adolescence and young adulthood.

Some typical issues students discuss are: relationship problems, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, alcohol and other drug abuse, family conflicts, sexual assault, racism, sexism, sexual orientation and behavior, study skills, selecting a major and career choice.

Services include individual and group counseling for personal, educational, and career concerns; personality and career interest assessment; psychiatric consultation for students in need of medication/hospitalization; crisis intervention for emergencies; consultation, outreach programs and workshops for all constituencies of the College community.
