Classics Day

Each year, the Department of Classics at Holy Cross hosts Classics Day, a daylong series of events relating to the study of ancient Greek and Roman culture.

Hundreds of students from high schools all over the Northeast visit Holy Cross for the event. The 46th Annual Classics Day will take place on Thursday, April 12, 2018.

About the Event

The event will feature certamen, a contest on Latin grammar, Roman and Greek mythology, Roman history, and Roman life. This contest will include both Upper and Lower Divisions, with a final round for both divisions, in which prizes will be given for first, second, and third places. For those students not participating in the certamen, a classically-themed costume contest will be held. Along with the certamen and costume contests, we will hold a new art contest and the Manuscripts Challenge competition (the rules for the Challenge are posted below). Due to construction on the Holy Cross campus, the famed chariot race will not be held this year.

  • The registration fee is $2 per student. Please bring payment with you on Classics Day and make checks payable to: College of the Holy Cross.
