Dear Academic Department Chairs,
On April 25, the Educational Technology Advisory Group (ETAG), chaired by Margaret Freije, met to discuss a number of items. One was a review of the purchases for academic software by ITS over recent years and discussion of the process. While there was general agreement that the total allocations over the years seem appropriate, the process for requesting and receiving approval for new software could be improved, mostly by setting target request dates for software requests. This would allow us to better allocate existing money to accommodate as many requests as possible.
As we move forward we ask that requests for software needed for the fall semester be sent to Rebecca Chickering in ITS by June 1 of each year. Requests for software needed by the second semester need to be in to Becky by December 15. We will then meet with Margaret and followup with ETAG on the status of requests. Requests received after the deadlines will be considered on a case-by-case basis if there is money available.
We recognize that June 1 is not far away, but hope you can query your faculty and get to us any known requests by June 1.
