For nearly a decade, the Mission Seminar has offered administrators from across the campus an opportunity to come to a deeper understanding and appreciation of Holy Cross’ mission as a liberal arts college firmly rooted in its Catholic and Jesuit identities. Participants are generally nominated by members of the College's Executive Team.
The seminar meets seven times throughout the academic year, over lunch. Each time it convenes in a different location to emphasize the many places that the College's mission "lives." The Seminar concludes with an afternoon and evening experience at the Joyce Contemplative Center, culminating with a celebratory dinner.
Each meeting will be structured around presentations, shared conversation, and time for questions. Materials and resources for reading and reflection will be provided. The themes and presenters are as follows:
Session 1 – The Mission Statement: A Fresh Look
Session 2 – HC Today and Tomorrow: President Vincent D. Rougeau
Session 3 – The Society of Jesus: Timothy O’Brien, S.J.
Session 4 – Liberal Arts, Jesuit, Catholic: Provost Margaret N. Freije
Session 5 – The Sense of the Whole: Michele Murray
Session 6 – Jesuit Education and Justice: Matt Eggemeier
Session 7 – Contemplation and Action: Jesuit Spirituality and Education (at the Joyce Contemplative Center)
