Hello!

Nǐhǎo My name is qúnjiā (群家), someone who is outgoing and adventurous. I’ll be one of your FLAs for Chinese this academic year. I’m now studying for my master’s degree in teaching Chinese as a second language at National Taiwan University. Moreover, I’m interested in Chinese phonetics, trying to understand how people pronounce the language. Also, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in teaching Chinese as a second language from the Chinese literature department at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan.

Maybe you wonder why there are two ways to spell my Chinese name? Or why do a lot of native Chinese speakers have their own “English names”? These two questions makes me want to know more about Chinese and also understand what makes the languages different. So, I decided to be a Chinese teacher for foreigners, not just for Chinese learning, but also other languages and cultures. This is also the reason why I have an interest in phonetics.

In my opinion, learning other languages will help you think outside the box and open up your horizons. Therefore, I’m happy to help anyone who wants to learn Chinese. In addition, I also like to learn other languages in my free time, so I know what it is like as a second language learner. Besides English and Chinese, I can speak Japanese and a little Thai. I have studied Spanish, French, and Korean before for a period of time. I enjoy traveling and reading in my free time. Sometimes I will go swimming. Furthermore, I also like to make short films.

Now it’s your turn! What makes you want to learn a new language? I look forward to seeing you soon at the College of the Holy Cross.
