All students are required to take this course if they anticipate applying for a middle school (Grades 5 - 8 ) initial license in the state of Massachusetts. This course is open to all Holy Cross students.
Time: 30 hours at a WPS Middle School
Observations: 6 structured observations
Classroom Involvement: Assist site teacher as needed. Become an active participant in the classroom. Interact with English Language Learner, Special Education students as well as small group interaction. If appropriate, teach a ‘mini-lesson' with the permission and collaboration of the site teacher.
Journal: Respond to focused journal questions as well as anecdotal notes and submit to the course Professor on a weekly basis.
Attendance Log: Keep a summary of your actual activities each visit and have your site teacher sign your log.
Class sessions: Weekly class meetings at Holy Cross, with the exception of two on-site meetings at a Worcester Public Middle School in order to facilitate work on the unit plan under the guidance of a teacher-leader.
Evaluation: These observations are an integral part of your course. In order to receive the full credits you will be required to complete all journals and observations.
