Today's Events in Washington, D.C.

Jan. 6, 2021

Dear Students and Colleagues,

I am deeply saddened and appalled by the unrest and violence unfolding in the U.S. Capitol today. The peaceful transfer of power is a hallmark of our political system. Those who attempt to subvert the work of our elected officials with force and violence, and anyone who incites such violence, are causing real damage to our country, our democracy and the ideals to which we aspire as a nation.

Please join me in prayer for those who have been injured, for the safety of everyone in Washington, D.C. today and for the restoration of peace that allows our democratic process to play out as it was intended.

Today’s events, which now include one death, and the events leading up to them, have been devastating for many of us to witness and comprehend. Please take good care of yourselves and avail yourselves of the resources that the College provides, including the Counseling Center, our College Chaplains or the Employee Assistance Program if they can be helpful.

May our Loving God protect and guide our country’s leadership.

Sincerely,

Philip L. Boroughs, S.J.
President
