你好(nǐ hǎo)!Hello! I’m Yu-Ping from Taiwan and I’ll be one of your Chinese FLAs for the upcoming academic year. I grew up in a small town in Hualien, then I have stayed in the big city Taipei for almost 8 years since university, and I’m now going to have my 27-year-old birthday in Holy Cross. I’m really excited about this adventure!
I’m currently studying my MA degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language at National Taiwan University, and I’m also taking Teacher Education Program. I’ve always wanted to be a life-long language learner and have just started to learn Korean this June. I think language is the key for us to truly understand the people, the life, and the culture of that language. And I’m glad to have this opportunity to share my life experience and culture in Taiwan with you, and get to gain the first-hand experience in the U.S. in person.
I would describe myself an upbeat and open-minded person, although I’m also kind of a slow-to-warm-up person at the same time. I like to walk. I would say walking is one of my favorite sports and it makes me feel relaxed. I also played volleyball in university but I haven’t played it for more than a year.
I also enjoy traveling. I’ve been to some places overseas, I had stayed in Arkansas for a month in my younger years, and I went on my Working Holiday summer in Australia couples of years ago. Ever seen then, I’ve been craving for a university life experience abroad. And can’t believe it’s really happening!
I can’t wait to start this adventure and to see you in the College of Holy Cross.
