Among its primary duties, the Office of the Provost works closely with: academic departments to facilitate hiring, develop curriculum, and provide support for facilities and equipment; the Deans' Advisory Group to insure the integrity of each student's academic experience; individual faculty members to facilitate their teaching and research; the Library staff to provide students and faculty with a wide range of print and electronic resources; theOffice of Sponsored Research to secure external support for research and curricular programs; and a variety of Councils and Committees to enable effective governance of the College.

Throughout the year the Office of the Provost also sponsors a number of speakers, events, and faculty development opportunities. Among these are workshops on pedagogy and the use of educational technology, an ongoing faculty discussion group on issues of higher education, and various speaker series and conferences, often co-sponsored with the McFarland Center for Religion, Ethics, and Culture.
