Trip Details:
Trip will be led by Prof. Andrea Borghini, Holy Cross Professor of Philosophy

Have you ever thought of engaging in central philosophical conversations while confronting ideas and attitudes towards food? The ideal setting for these discussions is Tuscany, Italy.  By encountering a strongly characterized regional cuisine embracing several protagonists of contemporary gastronomy, this journey will look out to issues concerning the global society that are mirrored in local practices.

Based on his popular monthlong “Maymester” program for Holy Cross students, Prof. Borghini has planned an itinerary to include guided walks through the countryside, visits and tastings to butchers, wineries, olive oil and cheese producers, specialty stores such as chocolate and ice cream shops, visits to markets and restaurants.   These activities will help address foundational questions of philosophy from three points of view: the production, the consumption, and the writing about food.
