Description
Let’s Flip the Script: Challenge gender expectations, break the stereotypes, and make space for everyone to be their authentic selves.
Let’s Flip the Script is a discussion-based program designed to encourage participants to critically examine traditional expectations, gender roles, and social norms that can influence how people are expected to look, act, communicate, and express themselves.
Throughout the program, participants will explore the different “scripts” that society can place on people based on gender. Through videos, reflection, and group discussion, we’ll examine messages such as “be a man,” “men shouldn’t show emotion,” “women should look or act a certain way,” and other expectations that can limit how people feel they are allowed to be.
Participants will watch videos featuring men discussing the societal expectations and unwritten rules often associated with masculinity, followed by a clip from Miss Representation exploring the expectations and roles that society has historically placed on women. Together, we’ll discuss how these messages can impact people of all genders and consider what it might look like to challenge the script, embrace individuality, and create space for everyone to be themselves.
