"Flattening the Social Hierarchy in the Classroom" will be held on November 18th from 12 to 1pm in Smith Hall, Room 501 (Lunch provided).

Lunch & Learn Description: In this session, we will discuss ways to “flatten the social hierarchy” inside the classroom in an effort to democratize the learning experience for students in their first year and beyond.​ While we believe we create learning environments where all students are treated and valued equally, students are aware of social hierarchies.​ And, their identities and our identities can impact their experience with us if we are not attentive to​ the historical structures that have marginalized some and privileged others. Please join us for a discussion about what flattening the social hierarchy can look like, and how doing this work can positively impact student learning across a broad spectrum of identities.
