Description

Come learn about this four-week, faculty-led summer Study Away course that immerses students in Washington, D.C. through an experiential, interdisciplinary lens.

  • Faculty Leaders: Sarah Luria, Environmental Studies and Chris Murray, Director of the Washington Semester Program

  • Course Credit: Fulfills the Common Area Requirement in Social Science

  • Dates: May 29 - June 26, 2027

Drawing on history, environmental studies, politics, literature, and urban studies, the course invites students to explore the many layers of the nation's capital - its neighborhoods, narratives, and power structures - to understand the multiple "DCs" that coexist within the city. The course is part of a new American Field Studies Series, a set of domestic, place-based summer courses designed to take students into regions that illuminate the diverse histories, cultures, and dynamics of the United States. These courses use on-site exploration and faculty-guided fieldwork to deepen academic inquiry and foster meaningful engagement with the American experience.
