Biography
Sarah Tymochko joined the College of the Holy Cross in Fall 2025 as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics, specializing in applied and computational mathematics. Previously, she was a Hedrick Assistant Adjunct Professor in Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). While at UCLA, she earned the Liggett Distinguished Instructor Teaching Award, a departmental award for excellence in teaching. She earned her B.A. in Mathematics from College of the Holy Cross in 2017, followed by a Ph.D. in Computational Mathematics, Science, and Engineering from Michigan State University in 2022. She also worked as an intern at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory from 2020–2022.
Her research uses topological data analysis, dynamical systems, and network science to study problems in the natural and social sciences through a quantitative lens. Recent projects include measuring equity in access to resources such as parks and modeling how opinions spread on social networks. She enjoys involving students in her research to show how mathematics can be applied to address real-world questions.
