Biography
Prof. Källan Berglund is researching quantum gravity, astrophysics, and physics pedagogy. She studies quantum-corrected black holes: building spacetime models, investigating their properties, and exploring potential predictions. With a background in researching star formation in galaxy clusters and the merger history of fossil galaxies, she is also continuing work on astrophysics, collaborating on galaxy cluster investigations of dark matter. She has plans for further physics education research studies, measuring the impact of her "Building Inclusive Communities" presentation in intro courses.
Prof. Berglund uses evidence-based teaching practices to foster a growth mindset, scientific identity, and a sense of belonging. Courses will emphasize collaboration and creative problem-solving. Her goal is to create a welcoming and supportive classroom culture where students are encouraged to ask questions, work together, and seek support.
Identifying as a queer, neurodiverse woman in physics, Prof. Berglund is a passionate advocate for equity and inclusion in academia and beyond. She has a long track record of community building and is eager to support ongoing efforts at Holy Cross. She is also active in community outreach and science communication. Students and colleagues are encouraged to reach out to share resources, exchange ideas, and discuss collaborations.
