Enrollment

How to Apply

You may become an Africana Studies concentrator at any time although it is preferred after you have taken two or three courses. You do not need to complete the concentration in order to apply. The director and Africana faculty are available to advise you with course selections and other opportunities. In order to declare the concentration, you should:

  • Complete the Change of Academic Plan form from STAR and email it to the director, Prof. Jeremy Jones.
  • Professor Jones will email you about meeting to discuss the concentration before approving your request.
  • Once you have met the director and enrolled in the concentration, please meet with Susan Cunningham (Smith 329), associate director of concentrations in the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, as she also keeps track of your progress in the concentration.
  • Feel free to contact Professor Jones or other Africana Studies faculty with any questions or concerns as you go through the process of completing the concentration.
