Moving In

The following information will be helpful to you as you prepare to move into the residence halls. Do not hesitate to call the office of Residence Life and Housing at 508-793-2411 if you have any questions.

Spring 2021 Semester Move-In

Move-in will be split over four days. This helps cut down on the number of students moving in at the same time, which aids in social distancing while ensuring that roommates can still move in on the same day. We will have information on assigning specific move-in times soon and further instruction will be sent to students via email.

First-Year Students

First-year students will move in over the weekend of Jan. 23-24. Your assigned day is determined based on your spring assignment room number, which can be found in THD Self-Service.

  • Students assigned for the spring semester in odd-numbered rooms will be able to move-in on Jan. 23, 2021.
  • Students assigned for the spring semester in even-numbered rooms will be able to move-in on Jan. 24, 2021.

Returning and Transfer Students

Sophomores, juniors and seniors will be moving in over Jan. 29-30. Days are assigned based on your spring assignment room number, which can be found in THD Self-Service.

  • Upperclass students in spring assignment with odd-numbered rooms will move into their spring assignment on Jan. 29.
  • Upperclass students in spring assignment with even-numbered rooms will move into their spring assignment on Jan. 30.

Schedule of Events

Upon arrival, students will follow the following check-in process:

  1. Arrive at Hogan Campus Center, 3rd Floor
Step 1: Review at-home PCR results with Health Services
Step 2: Check-in for housing with Residence Life
Step 3: Pick up ID sticker and lanyard with DPS
Step 4: Complete HC Clear sign up with ITS
  2. Complete on-campus testing at The Jo
  3. Pick up overnight meal pack at Crossroads (Terrace Level, Hogan Center)
  4. Move in to your residence hall assignment

Times

Move-in takes place between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. We cannot accept anyone arriving after the testing center is closed for the day.

First-year students must sign up for time slots on their given move-in day.  Students assigned to Clark, Brooks and Hanselman Halls will be able to sign up for a move-in time block now through Jan. 21. See instructions.

Upperclass students may arrive anytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Pre-Arrival and Arrival Testing

Students living on campus are required to have a negative PCR test result from the 72 hours prior to arrival. You will be asked to show your test results first thing when you arrive at Hogan Campus Center.

You will be tested again immediately upon arrival. You do not need to schedule this test in HC Clear.

Please review this campus map (PDF) that details traffic directions for the move-in process.

What to Bring

We are encouraging all students to pack light this semester.

Pack a go-bag: If you're asked to isolate or quarantine by the College, you'll need to quickly return to your housing to gather supplies. You will be instructed to enter isolation/quarantine space within an hour. Additionally, you'll not be able to leave your isolation or quarantine space until instructed that you can leave. To prepare for this, make sure that you have a go-bag always ready, so you're prepared to quickly move and you have the essentials you need.

  • Chargers & electronics
  • Comfortable clothes & pajamas: a few days worth
  • Masks/ face coverings: a few extra to wear each day
  • Toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, tampons, etc
  • Towels & face cloth
  • Prescription medications: pack several days worth
  • Digital thermometer
  • Eating utensils: plate, cup/ reusable water bottle, etc (Micro fridges will be in quarantine spaces)
  • Preferred snacks (meals will be provided, but it's nice to have some of your favorites)
  • Activities (book, coloring book, something that will bring you joy)
  • Academic textbooks
  • A list of other last-minute things to grab, pinned to the top of the bag. Some suggestions: laptop, pillow, extra clean clothes.

Family Members

Family members may accompany you to help with move-in. We ask that only one family member is in the residence hall with you at any time. Others may wait in your vehicle.

Family members from Massachusetts are not required to have a negative COVID test.

Family members from out of state must abide by the Massachusetts Travel Order, which requires a negative COVID test from the past 72 hours, or quarantine for 10 days prior to entering the state. Family members from out of state who are not planning to spend the night in Massachusetts are exempted from the travel order.

Quarantine

Because students will arrive with a 72-hour negative COVID test, they will be able to quarantine overnight in their spring housing assignments as they await results from their first on-campus test.

Meals will be provided. You will be released from quarantine once your on-campus test result returns negative, which is usually within 24-48 hours.

HC Clear

All residential students must register for HC Clear. Sign up with your Holy Cross Google account. Please do so prior to arrival.

Kickoff to 2021

As we welcome students back to campus we have many offerings to help new and returning students get (re)acquainted with The Hill through the Kickoff to 2021 program series which will be offered the first few weeks of classes. There will be some material that all students are expected to review and participate in, but also a variety of optional programs and opportunities including some in-person activities. More detailed information will be available closer to the start of the semester.

The College of the Holy Cross assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to a resident’s personal property, nor is the College responsible for property during move-in/move-out or left during vacation periods or after termination of residency. Purchasing property insurance to cover loss or damage to personal property or extending homeowners’ property insurance to cover loss or damage is strongly encouraged.
