Gabriela Reyes García

Language Assistant

Biography

¡Buenas!

My name is Gabriela, but I always go by Gaby, and I’ll be one of the Spanish Language FLAs for the 2025/26 academic year. I’m 23 years old, born and raised in Mallorca, a beautiful island in Spain surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea (best place on earth, if you ask me), but my roots also connect me to Peru and Cuba. When I was little I used to spend every summer in Peru with my abuela, and it has shaped the way I see the world, between cultures, languages, and ways of life.

I studied Pedagogy at the University of Granada and I’m about to finish a Master’s in Psychoeducational Research and Intervention. My curiosity and love for learning have taken me to many places: I did a Work & Travel program in New Jersey, an Erasmus in Poland, and worked as a group leader in Ireland. I truly believe that education and cultural exchange are key to creating a better world, where understanding and respect bring us closer together.

Languages are much more than just words, they carry history, traditions, festivals, food, music, dances… I know this well because Catalan, my other native language, has always been threatened, and that has made me passionate about defending languages and teaching their cultural backgrounds. No language is more or less important and the more we understand each other, the more we grow.

Outside of teaching, you’ll probably find me hiking (as a good mallorquina), crocheting, or trying to improve my knitting skills which I’m still learning, so I’d love any tips! I’m also a theater enthusiast. And if you ever need book recommendations, I’m your person! I love romance, sci-fi, dystopian fiction, fantasy, and basically anything that makes me think deeply. Music is also a big part of my life and I actually have a Spotify playlist for every occasion, but I’m always open to new recommendations!

Above all, I’m a very curious person. I love learning from everyone and everything, and I can’t wait to share experiences, opinions, and good conversations with all of you, especially about the three amazing cultures that are a part of me. Can’t wait to meet you all!

¡Nos vemos!
