Biography

Keith Seitter specializes in meteorology, climate science, and environmental policy. He is Executive Director Emeritus and a Senior Policy Fellow with the American Meteorological Society (AMS), the leading professional and scientific society serving the atmospheric and related sciences in the United States and internationally.  Seitter joined the staff of the AMS in 1991 and served as its Executive Director 2004-2022. Before joining the AMS, he was on the faculty at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, teaching in the meteorology major program and doing research in mesoscale meteorology. He earned his B.S degree in meteorology at the Pennsylvania State University and a doctorate in geophysical sciences at the University of Chicago. Seitter is a Fellow of the AMS and Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society.

Research Interests

My current research interests include investigating how the government, private (including NGO), and academic sectors can cooperate and collaborate to better address climate change (and its expression through impactful weather events) toward a society that is more resilient and sustainable. This involves the creation of policy and organizational structures that allow organizations and individuals to see value in collaborative efforts and that allow those in each sector to do what they do best and be rewarded in the “currency” appropriate for that sector.
