Rev. James Fitton opened a Catholic boarding school in 1832 that was used for the College. He sold the land on February 2, 1843.

Rev. James Fitton was born in 1805 and died in 1881. He opened a Catholic boarding school in 1832 on the site later used for the College. He sold the land on Mount Saint James to Bishop Fenwick for the College of the Holy Cross on February 2nd, 1843.
