Bishop Joseph N. Dinand, S.J.

Bishop Joseph N. Dinand, S.J.Portrait of Bishop Joseph N. Dinand, S.J. (1869-1943), who served as the president of Holy Cross twice, from 1911-1918 and 1924-1927.  He also served as the Vicar Apostolic of Jamaica from 1927 to 1929.  Dinand entered the Society of Jesus on August 15, 1880 and was ordained as a priest on June 25, 1903.  Following his final vows on August 15, 1906, Dinand taught at St. George’s College in Kingston, Jamaica.  Pope Pius XI appointed Dinand as the Titular Bishop of Selinus and Vicar Apostolic of Jamaica.  Dinand Library was named in honor of him. He resigned from his position as the Vicar Apostolic on October 4, 1929 for health reasons.  Dinand died in Weston, MA on July 29, 1943.
