Learn to Interview

An interview is a chance for you to demonstrate to an employer that you are the right person for the role by highlighting your skills, abilities, personal qualities and enthusiasm for the position. For the prospective employer, an interview is an opportunity to gather information about the candidate to assess the “fit” between the candidate and the position.

Preparing for an Interview

  • Do your research! You need to be able to articulate your understanding of and interest in the industry, organization and role.
  • Know where you are going: If the interview is off campus, map out your route ahead of time and give yourself plenty of time to get there. You should arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled interview time.
  • Dress professionally: Interview attire typically consists of a well-tailored conservative business suit.
  • Practice, Practice, Practice! Interviewing is a skill. The more practice, the better.
