Dear Members of the Campus Community,

I write you today with difficult news that I wanted you to hear directly from me. The College has placed James David Christie, artist in residence, on administrative leave following allegations of serious misconduct. The College has provided the statement below to The Boston Globe in response to a story they are planning to publish later today on these allegations:

The College was informed of allegations of serious misconduct and immediately placed Mr. Christie on administrative leave, in accordance with College policy. Mr. Christie had submitted a letter of resignation, and he will not be returning to the College. The College has begun a full and comprehensive review, which we will see through to completion regardless of Mr. Christie’s employment status. Our first and highest priority is to ensure the mental, physical and emotional wellbeing of all members of our Holy Cross community, and we will continue our work to create a safe and caring educational environment at the College of the Holy Cross.

I understand that you and others may have questions; however, maintaining the privacy of the individuals associated with this matter is very important and therefore we are limited in what we can say. At the same time, since The Globe is working on a story, I felt it was important to share this information with you directly.

Sincerely,

Rev. Philip L. Boroughs, S.J.
President
