Carmen Tarodo Abril

Spanish FLA

Biography

¡Hola!

My name is Carmen, and I will be one of your Spanish FLAs for the 2019/20 academic year. I am from León, a little inland city in the north-west of Spain, which is full of history, traditions and cultural richness. I will be very happy to analyze them with you, and to guide you to discover its wonders.

After finishing a Degree in Modern Languages, I am currently studying a Master’s Degree in Language Teaching. My previous experiences giving private lessons of Spanish, French and English have shown me that language teaching is my vocation, since I always enjoy the classes as much as my students. This is why I can’t wait to meet you and start working together.

Whenever I can, I try to be in touch with people from other cultures, as they offer different ways of looking at the world. Presently, I am working as a collaborator in the International Relations Office of my university, which is helping me to become more familiar with the perspectives of the students from other cultures towards my own. Needless to say, I would also like you to share with me your perception of the Spanish and European cultures.

Regarding my hobbies, in summer I like doing activities outdoors; I am a big fan of cycling, but I also like other sports such as swimming, or just enjoying relaxing walks in the countryside. In winter, to the contrary, I prefer to stay home reading, watching series and films, or playing board games with my family. I am longing to show you my favorites, and, of course, I will be very open to your recommendations too.

Although I have been living in other countries, this will be my first time in the United States, so you can imagine how excited I am. Besides, I have no doubt that you are going to play an important role in my deeper understanding of your country and culture, and I hope we make the most of our time together.

I am looking forward to show you my culture and learn from yours!

Un saludo, Carmen
