The mission provides the key questions I want to ask of myself when thinking about my calling in life. I find it particularly helpful in times of stress, or when there are no clear answers to complex challenges that I might be facing. The mission is not just a philosophical consideration, but it compels us to act; It provides some fundamental principles that can help guide our everyday actions. It also gives me some solace knowing that I am part of a much larger community that understands and shares these common commitments for the greater good. It provides some order in an otherwise chaotic, unpredictable and inequitable world.

The mission to me offers guidance on how we should conduct ourselves as members of this extraordinary community. As we go about our daily work lives and interact with others, we can use the precepts established by the mission as inspiration to direct us on a course of quality service and vulnerability. In doing so, we will continue to succeed personally and professionally with integrity, grace and social responsibility and can be content in knowing that we have done our best to further the excellence of this institution.

To me, living the mission means living in dialogue: to be patient with ambiguity, to embrace a community marked by mutual respect and civility, and to be open to points of view and ways of thinking that are not our own.

The mission means that God is in everyone, and to disrespect others is to not be awakened to the challenges that God presents to us through that encounter.

The Mission inspires me to do the best that I can and be the best that I can for the College and for members of our community: to be more sensitive and caring, to share more of myself and to make things better for others, even if only in small ways.

"To me, the Holy Cross mission means that we are called upon to challenge and support one another in discovering and fully developing our unique talents and gifts so they can contribute to the common good on our own campus and the wider society."
