Fall 2020 Study Abroad Update (24 June 2020)

Dear Study Abroad Students,

As you saw in the message from the President today, Holy Cross is making plans for Fall 2020 and we are planning to invite all students who are able to return to campus. I am writing to let you know that Holy Cross will not be sponsoring any Study Abroad programs for the fall semester.  This is not a decision that we made lightly.  We waited to make the decision while we gathered more information and monitored the course of the COVID-19 virus and responses to it.  The Center for Disease Control  Level 3 Travel Health notice for all countries remains in effect, and the State Department international Level 4 “Do Not Travel” advisory also remains in effect.  It is unlikely that these warnings will be changed in the near future, and there continues to be a significant risk of a second wave of infections in the fall that would compel us to bring any students abroad back to the United States before the end of the fall semester.  For these reasons we are cancelling all Holy Cross Study Abroad programs in the fall.

This decision, while perhaps not unexpected, is likely very disappointing for you.  No decision has yet been made regarding the spring semester.  If possible, we would like to be able to offer students an opportunity to Study Abroad in the future.  The Study Abroad Office can work with you to discuss options for the spring semester or for the fall semester of your senior year.  Please contact the Study Abroad Office if you would like to review your options.

As you plan for the fall semester, you will have the same opportunities as other Holy Cross students to register for housing and to manage your courses during open enrollment.  More information will be forthcoming soon.

Sincerely,

Brit Smith

Director of Study Abroad
