A former Naval commander, his assignments included commanding officer of the presidential retreat at Camp David. Zimmermann earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and economics from Union College and a master's degree in financial management at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.

Merrill has served as assistant director of physical plant for the past 12 years, most recently coordinating the construction of the Smith Hall. He earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering at Villanova University, and a master's degree in civil engineering/construction management from Penn State. A former commander in the United States Navy serving in the Civil Engineers Corps/Seabees, he resides in Charlton, Mass., with his wife, Cathy, and their four children.
