Lambda Alpha Award
Established in 1968, Lambda Alpha is a national honor society founded to promote the study of anthropology. The name Lambda Alpha is composed of the initial letters of the Greek words LOGOS ANTHROPOU, meaning "The Study of Humans."
Thomas P. Imse-Alpha Kappa Delta Award
At the conclusion of the 1987-88 academic year, Professor Thomas P. Imse retired after twenty-five years of dedicated professional service to College of the Holy Cross in the field of sociology. To honor him and to note his commitment to the national sociology society (Alpha Kappa Delta), the Department established the Thomas P. Imse-Alpha Kappa Delta Award. Each year, the award is given to a graduating sociology major who is also a member of AKD. It is given in recognition of the student's scholarly excellence and demonstrated commitment to learning for the service of humankind.
Department Honors Program
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology offers an honors program for students seeking the independent research opportunities associated with writing a thesis. The program provides qualified majors the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the discipline through a year-long project of their own design, either empirical or theoretical, and to write an honors thesis.
