Summer Chamber Music Institute

June 25 - July 1, 2017

The Chamber Music Institute at Holy Cross is an intensive immersion program for talented, high-school and college aged violinists, violists, cellists and pianists, focused on the art of chamber music as well as individual musical development. The goal of the program is to provide a holistic and highly individualized environment in which students will have the opportunity to work closely with internationally renowned artists.

Each participant will get two pieces assigned, one of them coached from the outside and the other one with a faculty member playing in the ensemble. This allows the participants to benefit from the outside help and perspective of the coaches as well as giving them the opportunity to experience, from a nonverbal perspective, how the coaches approach the pieces from within the ensemble and being on equal footing with them during the performance.

The high caliber faculty has a rich national and international background, bringing along their vast concertizing and teaching experience, as well as their passion for chamber music.

The institute will take place at the beautiful campus of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. Facilities include a newly renovated concert hall with excellent Steinway pianos, fully-equipped practice studios and classrooms, access to the most extensive music library in central Massachusetts, a state-of-the art recording facility, as well as all the wonderful amenities of this selective Jesuit, liberal arts Institution.
