Student News

The Class of 2017 includes 39 Chemistry Majors. Six will be entering chemistry PhD programs. Casey Adams, Northwestern; Aaron Bosse, Emory; Rebecca Davies, Tufts; Henry Dodge, North Carolina; Adam Millham, Dartmouth; Kate Nicastri, Wisconsin.  In addition, Chris Minteer will be attending the University of Cambridge to pursue a research MPhil and Marshall Lougee ’16 will be entering the chemistry PhD program at Penn.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Our students have been recognized with a number of prestigious awards during the 2016-17 academic year.  Drew Weller ’17 was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Fellowship in Nepal, Phallika Mon ’18 was the recipient of one of two Clare Boothe Luce Scholarships awarded by the College, and Erik Ouellette ’18 was awarded a Goldwater Scholarship.  Four of our majors have been accepted into highly competitive REU programs for the summer – William Crowley ’20 (New Mexico-Sandia National Lab), Yun Hu ‘18  (Minnesota), Susannah Huth ’18 (Baylor) and Erik Ouellette (National Renewable Energy Lab).

R. Herrick

Prof. Herrick was recently awarded a Jean Dreyfus Boissevain Lectureship for Undergraduate Institutions grant from the Dreyfus Foundation. The grant for $18,000 brought 1981 Chemistry Nobel Laureate Roald Hoffmann to campus for two days. While here he gave a poetry reading and presented a general chemistry talk and a technical talk on his research. The grant also supports the Summer 2011 research efforts of Mitchell Shetter '12 and Christopher Shugrue '13.
