Jan. 8, 2021
Dear Students, Families and Colleagues,
To ensure all members of our community have the most up to date information, we will be sending these weekly updates to all faculty and staff beginning today, rather than updating you separately. As always, if you have any questions related to the content of the update or the College’s reopening plans, please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org or to the Class Deans, Residence Life, or your supervisor as appropriate.
Spring Return Update
As you know, and as is reflected on our COVID-19 dashboard, rates of the virus continue to increase locally and across the country. Our local Division of Public Health is rightly concerned about the thousands of college students preparing to move to Worcester in the coming weeks. We have met with DPH both individually and together with other Worcester colleges and universities in recent weeks, and we are still on track with our current plan and timeline.
Pre-Arrival Testing for Students
For Residential Students
Students received an email on Wednesday, January 6, with information about pre-arrival testing. Residential students MUST present a negative PCR test result upon arrival. This can be accomplished by using an at-home test provided by the College or securing a test at a location near their home. Students living within 10 miles of Holy Cross must schedule a pre-arrival test on campus.
If you reside in Massachusetts, you may come to campus for your pre-arrival test; schedule your test in HC Clear. Out of state residents may not, at this time, due to the Massachusetts COVID-19 Travel Order.
If a student arrives without a negative test result, they will be required to quarantine. Students who live within 250 miles of campus will be sent home to quarantine. Students who live further away will be placed in College-sponsored quarantine space for a minimum of five days. Please read Wednesday’s email carefully for detailed instructions about this mandatory test.
For Off Campus Students
We encourage off campus students to wait until the week before classes begin to move to the Worcester area. As soon as off campus students are in the Worcester area, they should enter the on campus testing protocol by registering in HC Clear and scheduling their first test. Students will not be permitted to access campus, except for testing, if they have not had two negative results in the week prior.
PLEASE NOTE: The on campus testing center will be closed on Thursday, 1/21, Tuesday 1/26, and Thursday, 1/28, to support move-in weekends. You can see available appointments for the week of Jan. 25 on HC Clear.
Move-in Scheduling for First-Year Students
First year student move-in will take place on Jan. 23 and 24. Next week, we will provide those students with instructions to sign up for time slots on their given move-in day.
As a reminder, all students and any employee who comes to campus must register for HC Clear. Sign up with your Holy Cross Google account.
- Complete the daily symptom screenings;
- Schedule appointments at the testing center;
- Check real-time compliance with our protocols and;
- Review test results (you will also receive your results from the Broad, through their Care Evolve platform via email).
Employees who come to campus infrequently and are not in the testing protocol should still sign up for HC Clear and perform the Daily Symptom Checker before coming to campus.
