Access restrictions applying to individual servers

publish.holycross.edu is the server which houses Web sites available at www.holycross.edu, intranet.holycross.edu, stage.holycross.edu and college.holycross.edu. The four Web servers available from publish.holycross.edu and the access restrictions on each are listed below.

www.holycross.edu

Accessible by: staff, faculty

Department Directories:
All approved publishers for a department can publish to anything within their department's directory. Department heads must approve requests for publishing permission for new employees. Publishing permission to multiple departments is available by special request to the Help Desk.

Individual Directories:
At the level of individuals' directories: only the individual who 'owns' that directory may publish to it.

Special publishing permission may be requested from the Help Desk for other individuals to cross-publish, however once permission is granted, everything within the directory may be accessed by this individual.


Publishing above the level of individual named departments is restricted to system administrators and the Web editor.

Department Directories:
All approved publishers for a department can publish to anything within their department's directory. Approval is required by the department head for new employees. Publishing permission to multiple departments is available by special request to the Help Desk.

Individual Directories:
At the level of individuals' directories: only the individual who 'owns' that directory may publish to it.

Special publishing permission may be requested from the Help Desk for other individuals to cross-publish, however once permission is granted, everything within the directory may be accessed by this individual.


Access to intranet.holycross.edu is restricted to on-campus users.

college.holycross.edu

college.holycross.edu is the server intended for Holy Cross personal, organization, journal or conference style Web sites.

Accessible by: staff, faculty, students, approved consultants or contract workers.

Individuals
At the level of individuals' directories: only the individual who 'owns' that directory may publish to it unless permission is obtained from the Help Desk by the owner of the directory.

Organizations
Any approved publishers who are members of an organization may publish to the organization's directory. Upon request by a member of the organization, the Help Desk will create an organization directory and all approved collaborators will be granted access.

stage.holycross.edu

stage.holycross.edu is the server intended for site development work and is not part of any Holy Cross Web sites. This server is also intended for collaborative projects. Access beyond that allowed on www.holycross.edu may be granted.


Accessible by: staff, faculty, students, approved consultants or contract workers.

Collaborative and work study projects:
Cross-departmental and work study publishing permissions will be granted on stage.holycross.edu for collaborative projects. Upon request by a member of the department, the Help Desk will create a directory under that department and all approved collaborators will be granted access.

Moving files from stage to publish:
Once development of a site or project is finished the site files must be moved to publish.holycross.edu by a member of the department under which the content will reside or by the Help Desk. New sites must be approved by Public Affairs before being moved to publish.holycross.edu.

Account permissions
Web publishing account permissions must be obtained by completing a Service Desk ticket and using Help.Web as your request area. Complete instructions can be found here.

You'll be contacted when your request has been approved. Permission to edit pages on department web sites will require the approval of the appropriate department head.

ITS will remove account permissions and associated Web files one year after termination or graduation.

Notification of new accounts or account terminations is to be sent to Public Affairs as the changes are made.

Anonymous and group accounts
No anonymous or group account publishing permissions are allowed on the Web servers.
