'I Love it Here' 2.07 - Cold Stone Creamery

This may be old news, but I just jumped on the Cold Stone Creamery bandwagon. Last week, while shopping in Blackstone I made a quick stop at this ice cream chain. I didn't expect much at first, since I thought it was just ice cream, but I was sorely mistaken.

From the outside, the Cold Stone Creamery is tiny and unassuming. Even on the inside it's tiny. This may be a deterrent if you want to go in a large group since there is no way more than 10 people can sit down and enjoy their ice cream inside the store.

For the second time I've broken my "do not do chain restaurants" rule, but again I have good reasoning. Until this year, I had never heard of this chain, and it turns out it's a West Coast chain slowly that is making its way to the East Coast. Expect many more Cold Stone Creameries to be popping up all over Massachusetts within the year. On top of this, the ice cream is so unique and tasty that I feel the need to sing its praises.

Cold Stone Creamery is so good for two reasons: the ice cream itself and the way they add their toppings. There are not a whole lot of flavors of ice cream, but they're very smooth and creamy. They have standards like Vanilla and Chocolate, and they even have new staples like Mint. Along with these, they've concocted their own ice cream flavors, such as Sweet Cream, Banana, and Cake Batter. I had Cake Batter, and I was amazed to find that it does taste like cake batter. There are even bits of cake batter in the ice cream! Usually, an ice cream place will add the toppings to the top of the ice cream. Not here. The reason why it's called Cold Stone Creamery is that they flatten the ice cream on a cold stone, put the toppings on top (hence the name topping), and then mix it all in on the stone. This creates an interesting texture, and accentuates on the toppings. Along with my cake batter ice cream came sprinkles, fudge, and brownies, in a pre-made combination called "Birthday Cake Remix."

I definitely recommend trying out Cold Stone once or twice while you're at school. Though I wish there was more room in the store and the prices were lower, the product is worth it. But for me, though the toppings are nice, the quality of the ice cream itself is what will keep me coming back.
