'I Love it Here' 2.06 - The Sole Proprieter

The Sole Proprietor is located in the WPI area of town, and is the sister restaurant of 111 Chophouse. The Sole Proprietor’s love and focus is seafood. I'm from coastal Massachusetts, so I know my seafood and am a bit of a seafood snob. Thus, going to The Sole Proprietor is an incredible treat.

The Sole Proprietor is for those meals when your parents come and you want to impress them, or you have a hot date. We went very late on a Saturday night; the only time we could get a reservation. This place, especially on weekends, is not a casual drop-in place. We had to plan several days ahead, and I suggest you do the same. Our reservation was for 9:30 p.m., and the restaurant was hopping until at least 10:30 p.m. Lunches are less busy, but nights are always packed.

Now onto the good part: the food. I cannot stress enough that this places focuses on seafood. There are maybe four things on the menu that do not have seafood in them, and one of them is surf and turf (it's listed on the non-fish menu). The quality of the fish is top-notch. It's all incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection. I had salmon, which can have a distinct fishy taste at times, but this was very flavorful and incredible. It even better than my mom's salmon (sorry, but it's true).

Because they focus on only seafood, they can get creative with the menu. The Sole Proprietor offers the more traditional fare, such as fried and baked seafood, but they also provide more eclectic offerings like Tuna Sashimi and Baked Sole with Shrimp and Artichoke Stuffing. What I also like about The Sole Proprietor is that they have your classic seafood offerings like haddock, but they also have more exotic seafood like Mako and Mahi. They also have a very extensive sushi menu, if you're into that sort of thing.

Try to save space for a dessert, even if you have to share it, since they're incredible. My recommendation would have to be either the flan or The Chocolate Bag. Either one of those, and a nice cup of tea, will be the perfect way to conclude your meal.
