'I Love it Here' 1.04 - BBQ

If you’re like me and you love Texas barbecue, it’s worth taking a gander at Casper’s West Side Smoke House, which is a few doors down from Word Play, which I talked about in my last article. Casper’s is located on the corner of Pleasant St. and Richmond Ave. I’ve found it’s a real neighborhood establishment. The grill master at Casper’s was working as a head chef at the Sole Proprietor when he decided he’d like to open up his own smoke house here in Worcester. The food is BBQ and Tex-Mex fare, and the atmosphere is nice but not fancy: you order your food at the counter, deli-style. I highly recommend the brisket, which melts in your mouth, but in fact everything’s good.

While I’m at it, I’ll mention the other Texas barbecue place in town: the Armadillo Depot (on Park Ave. by Cactus Pete’s and Kay’s Barber Shop; you can also check it out online at http://www.armadillodepot.net). This place has been around longer than Casper’s, and I have to say their pulled pork sandwich is the best in town. Armadillo Depot also offers a wider variety of barbecue sauces than its competitor too. Don’t forget about the wings either!
