Program Description

Crusaders on the Move will feature activities designed for first-year students to sample the many activities that Holy Cross and Worcester has to offer. Students may participate in an afternoon yoga session, take a shopping trip to Blackstone Valley, among many other activities. Students may also choose to register for one of the following off-campus excursion trips (pre-registration is required). Please see detailed excursion information.

All excursion trips include lunch. Lunches include choice of sandwich, chips, fruit, dessert, and drink. Participants have the option of a “Hikers Lunch,” which includes a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, fruit, Holy Cross’ famous trail mix, and water.

Excursion #1 -
Urban Adventure

9:30am-12:30pm/Cost: FREE/Lunch Included

Get to know Worcester and the many ways your new home city can shape your Holy Cross education.
This program includes a chance to visit some of our community partners where students engage in service and work for justice, a tour of the city highlighting social and cultural opportunities and a chance to sample food at one of Worcester’s fabulous restaurants.

Excursion #2
Rock n’ Paddle with Eastern Mountain Sports

9am-4pm/Cost: $75.00/Lunch Included

Travel to nearby Lincoln Woods, RI for a day of guided rock climbing and kayaking. Spend time outdoors and challenge yourself mentally and physically while experiencing the outdoors with skilled professionals.

Register online to reserve your seat. A non-refundable payment of $75.00 for this excursion must be received by the Office of Orientation, Transition, and Leadership no later than August 15 to confirm your reservation. Space is limited.

Excursion #3
Arts and the Outdoors

11:30am-3:30pm/Cost: FREE/Lunch Included

Lunch in Elm Park (Worcester’s most beautiful park) will begin your day. You will then move onto the Worcester Art Museum and receive guided tours from Holy Cross students on some of the most interesting exhibits that are available in the museum. Enjoy this hidden gem!

Excursion #4
Taking it to the Top

Noon-2pm/Cost: FREE/Lunch Included

Bring a good pair of hiking boots—Mt. Wachusett is the tallest mountain east of the Connecticut River! Hike this mountain to see breathtaking views of Eastern Massachusetts and get some exercise at the same time. If you can conquer a mountain on one of your first days in college, just think of all you can accomplish during the next 4 years!

Excursion #5
Experience the City of Boston: Boston Duck Tour & Museum of Science

Time 8:00am – 4:00pm Cost: $50.00/Lunch Included

Waddle through various landmarks of the city known as the birthplace of freedom in remodeled W.W. II amphibious vessels. Enjoy the sites and sounds of Boston’s historic neighborhoods as your “conducktors” share with you some of the more interesting, cultural, and educational facts of this historic city. After splashing into the Charles River and paddling alongside the magnificent view of Boston and Cambridge skylines, dive into the sea of amazing exhibits at the Boston Museum of Science. The IMAX 3D digital cinema, Planetarium, and live presentations of anything from juggling to robotic dinosaurs are just a few of the activities available for your participation. With all the adventures available on this trip, it is sure to be a major contender in your choice of excursion for the program.
