Orientations
Holy Cross’ award-winning orientation program for incoming first-year and transfer students is shaped by a spirit of community and provides important resources and information to all new students.
In June, Summer Gateways offers newly enrolled first-year students and their parents an advance introduction to life at College of the Holy Cross and helps students understand expectations both in and outside of the classroom. It provides opportunities to meet classmates, faculty and administrators. Students take care of practical matters like opening a bank account, taking language placement exams, getting their IDs, and meeting with a faculty advisor. A separate program, for parents, is offered simultaneously. In addition to meeting faculty and administrators, parents attend sessions which address transition and developmental issues typically associated with the first year of college.

Fall Gateways, in August, begins at move-in and continues until the night before classes begin. Led by Orientation Leaders (OLs) and Resident Assistants (RAs), first-year students attend educational sessions and social activities. Transfer Students attend some Fall Orientation events, and also have a chance to explore the unique challenges and opportunities of being experienced college students, but new to Holy Cross. More »
Extended Orientation, also known as The Second Thoughts Series, continues through the fall semester for first-year and transfer students. RAs and Extended Orientation Leaders (EOL’s) coordinate programs and activities, but also meet with students to maintain personal contact. Reflective workshops, community builders, and casual gatherings are a few examples of how students are invited to stay connected.
