Passions: football, C.S. Lewis, HC’s Christian Life Community

“I’ve always been fascinated by how things work, and that’s the big attraction of biology and medicine for me. It’s also why I like being a Science Ambassador, helping to introduce kids in Worcester to science by relating it to everyday life. In the same way, I see God in everyday life, and Holy Cross has given me so many opportunities to visit my spiritual self. That’s really important these days, when the scientific and religious worlds so often seem to be at odds. I’ve taken many religion courses and enjoy discovering how the Catholic tradition relates to my own Methodist faith. I’m a leader in our Christian Life Community, which works through small discussion groups every week, and in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I just completed one of the Holy Cross weeklong, silent retreats – a really intense but also relaxing experience.

Of course football is a big part of my life. I’ve never had a mentor like Coach Gilmore, who cares so much about his players. I had to sit out the season sophomore year because of a shoulder injury. During that time, I helped manage the team, and seeing all the effort that goes on behind the scenes made me fall in love with our program that much more.”
