Passions: very special birthday parties, Saturday nights in the ER, INDIA
“I love science, and I believe in service, and medicine is the best way I know to combine the two. I’m majoring in psychology because it will give me a strong background for the areas I’m most interested in – neurology, endocrinology, and oncology. And Holy Cross is the right school because I can get a well-rounded liberal arts education in addition to an excellent premed program. The premed courses are tough, but the faculty offers lots of support, as well as new learning approaches. I’m living proof that organic chemistry isn’t as bad as it seems!
Beyond academics, I’ve been involved in planning and fundraising for the monthly kids’ birthday parties at Sherry’s House, a residence for the families of children being treated for cancer, and I volunteer at UMass Memorial Medical Center. Last year I did patient transport, and now I’m in the ER on Saturday nights, which gives me a chance to see a lot of action and understand the dynamics between family members and caregivers. It’s also rewarding to raise awareness about India through our campus INDIA organization. Last summer, I volunteered in tsunami-affected areas of India with Holy Cross Habitat for Humanity, and that experience reinforced just how important service is in my life.”
