Passions: Latin, directing, music, Rome
Even though I’ve always loved Latin, in high school my experience with classics ended when the bell rang. Here, there are so many classics majors, and everyone is so passionate about the subject that we discuss it all the time. The way the ancients wrote about love and relationships is amazing, and reading their words in the original helps me develop my own interpretations. My History of Rome class is so inspiring that I’m planning to spend a semester there next year.
Theater is a new interest I discovered at Holy Cross. I took part in the student-run Alternate College Theatre production of Anything Goes, and then I was hooked. You can really inhabit a character by understanding who they are and why. Now I’m taking advanced directing, and that’s even better, because I can create a whole world. This summer I’m assistant directing two Shakespeare productions with my professors. Because music means so much to me, I was thrilled to be the vocal director for our production of Sweet Charity. I’m also a music leader for the Sunday evening Mass, where I play guitar and sing, and that’s a great way to express my faith.
As a Filipino-American student from Jersey City, I was surprised by how quickly I acclimated. This place is full of amazing people and so many ways to grow – I feel that I’m coming into my own.
