Passions: Shakespeare, writing, singing the National Anthem at Worcester Tornadoes’ games, leading campus tours

I believe that theater is a reflection of life, so I wanted a liberal arts approach where I could learn about the world, not just technique. When I visited Holy Cross, I saw a performance of The Seagull and knew this was the place for me because of the incredible production values. I’ve been able to do so much here, from playing the lead in Sweet Charity to studying Asian performance traditions. I’ve also had internships at professional theaters and have applied that real-world experience in theater administration as vice chair for our student-run Alternate College Theatre.

The faculty here is so encouraging. Professor Whall in English has shaped my writing and shown me how much fun researching Shakespeare can be – which complemented my work with Professors Kremer, Isser, and Vineberg in theatre. Professor Schmalz introduced me to comparative religions. Doing economics research with Professor O’Connor gave me the chance to use my love of analysis. My two majors serve different sides of my brain, and sometimes they coincide — right now I’m writing a paper on Brecht and game theory. The College Honors Program has helped me integrate my learning, and I’m planning a two-part thesis, writing about the evolution of the one-person show while creating and performing my own.
