Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest

Summer Fellowship

Description: A  40  year old mentor program whose mission is to enhance the quality of children's lives by matching them with responsible and caring adult volunteers.  With more than   6,000 matches made,  1152 children served in 2008, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest  is ready to move into the next century.  But even with all that we have accomplished in  40  years, the need for Big Brothers and Big Sisters is as great as ever.  We will work to continue all that we have built, and strive for even greater achievement, always keeping that original mission in mind, One Adult for Every Child In Need.

The organization is currently run by Executive Director Ben Ticho, Holy Cross Class of 1968

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct volunteer, child and parent evaluations for school based programs.
  • Home visits with parents and child
  • Child interviews and assessments for school based programs.
  • Prepare volunteer orientation packets.
  • Input data from interviews and assessments.  
  • Help organize summer outings for matches
  • Assist with recruitment and marketing

Qualifications:

  • Class of 2010, 2011 or 2012 
  • You MUST be from the central MA area to apply for this internship
  • Enthusiasm
  • Strong Communications (Oral & Written) skills.
  • Ability to relate to diverse population
  • Familiarity with Microsoft
  • Flexibility

Students should also have a means of transportation in order to conduct the various home visits.  BBBS will provide mileage reimbursement for work-related travel.

Due to the nature of the work with children and families, the organization will check the CORI (criminal offenders record information bureau) for a satisfactory report on the student.

Compensation:  This 10-week summer Fellowship carries a $4,000 stipend provided by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest, the Holy Cross Club of Worcester, and the Holy Cross General Alumni Association credited to the Fellow's HC student account.
