Paralegal Assistant/Law Clerk Assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Procure written payoff authorization from borrower and procure payoff figures from current mortgage holder.
  • Procure insurance binders for closing.
  • Procure MLC (municipal lien certificate) from the city or town where the property is situated.
  • Perform title rundowns in Essex County (Southern District).
  • Record instruments with the Registry of Deeds.
  • Prepare post-closing packages for the lenders and, if applicable, mortgage brokers including completing title insurance, overnight payoffs to lender that we are paying off and copying package and sending package to proper parties.
  • Oversee missing discharge requests from other attorneys and procure missing discharge and/or assignment form prior mortgage holders.
  • Oversee missing documents request from lenders.
  • Assist attorneys with probate matters.

The position requires strong organization skills, attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, and adherence to strict client confidences. Further, a candidate should have the ability to work with others, as well as independently.

The internship will provide the opportunity to learn the intricacies of real estate closings including: performing title rundowns, communicating with clients, lenders, borrowers and sellers, ordering mortgage payoffs, and preparation of loan packages.

The position may afford the summer intern exposure to numerous businesses, including contact with the following: financial institutions, municipalities, insurance companies, engineering firms, real estate brokers, Court and Registry of Deeds.

Compensation: This internship is 20 - 30 hours per week. The duration of the internship is flexible. The internship will run May though August. The summer intern will be compensated at a rate of $10.00 - $15.00 per hour.
