As an Actuarial Intern at Liberty Mutual you will perform meaningful work in an environment that supports your learning.  You will be given the opportunity to handle projects or some of the work normally performed by an entry-level professional employee.  At Liberty Mutual, our Actuarial Interns:
Gain knowledge about the business and actuarial experience working with one of our many Actuarial groups
Assist in the preparation of rate level indications
Perform analysis of company liabilities and other actuarial analyses
Attend formal training where they learn key actuarial concepts
Have an Actuarial Student 'Buddy' to answer questions, help guide them in their first days, and support them during their Internship
Our Interns have assignments in our Corporate, Commercial, Personal, and Agency Markets companies.  They learn about our business and both Personal and Commercial products while working in a variety of disciplines such as financial reporting, ratemaking, reinsurance, research, reserving, underwriting, etc.  Many of the full-time Students in our Actuarial Development Program began their Liberty careers as Actuarial Interns.
 
Although we have actuaries throughout our organization, our Actuarial Interns typically begin their Liberty Mutual experience at one of the following campuses: Boston, MA - Keene, NH - Wausau, WI - Fairfield, OH - Seattle, WA.

Qualifications:  This internship is open to all qualified '11 students

  • Proven math and analytical skills, as normally acquired through the pursuit of a bachelors degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field
  • A record of academic achievement, including a GPA of at least a 3.0
  • Casualty Actuarial Exam experience is not required, but is preferred
  • Solid oral / written communication skills
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
  • MS Office proficiency, with solid Excel skills preferred - SAS and Programming skills are desirable
