•     Actuaries provide a financial evaluation of risk for their companies to be used for strategic management
•     Specific functions of an actuary include, but are not limited to:
–     Pricing of insurance products and loss reserving
–     Product development
–     Portfolio analysis and Multivariate analysis (including Generalized Linear Modeling)
–     Planning and forecasting
–     Competitive intelligence
–     Catastrophe modeling

Part of an actuarial student's job is to study for and pass exams in pursuit of the professional designation "Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society". In support of this, The Hanover offers a very competitive exam program, including:

Location:  Worcester, MA

Qualifications: Class of 2009 or 2010.  Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80

To be a successful actuary, an individual must possess:
•     Strong analytical and decision-making skills
•     Business acumen and excellent communication skills
•     Undergraduate degree in math, business, finance, economics or related field preferred
•     Successful completion of one or more actuarial exams
•     Superior computer skills (e.g., Excel, Access, SAS)
